I have two children aged eight and four. My eight-year-old is very bright. She’s in year 3 and doing year 6 maths. Her state school has large classes and limited resources, so I challenge her by doing fun maths at home. I wanted to try getting her into a grammar school (our local state secondaries do not get good results), but lots of local parents pay for their children to have private tutors, which I can’t afford.I fear my children will be penalised and stuck in a cycle of not fulfilling their potential. This hits personally because I was diagnosed with…

Tarek Robbiati, CFO of data storage company Everpure, said that the increased capex spend on AI is ‘not temporary’ even if the industry supply and demand equation rebalances and more AI capacity becomes available. Robbiati said that while the AI market is expected to revert to a mean, it will not happen quickly and it may not go back to the same level. (Source: Bloomberg)
The artificial intelligence industry is spending heavily in the 2026 midterms, hoping to secure influence over the technology’s first generation of legislation – and New York City’s primary has emerged as the key battleground.AI-focused Super Pacs have raised roughly $100m this cycle, of which $44m has been spent so far, in dozens of congressional races across the country. Nearly half of all spending has converged on a single Manhattan race: Tuesday’s Democratic primary in the district of NY-12.And much of that spending has targeted a single candidate: Democratic assemblymember Alex Bores, who is running to represent New York’s 12th House…

The idea that beards are dirtier than clean-shaven faces has been floating around for decades, says John Tregoning, professor of vaccine immunology at Imperial College London. There is even research that shows people perceive bearded men as less hygienic: one study found restaurant customers rated waiters with facial hair as dirtier. Science doesn’t necessarily back that up, though. The Guardian’s journalism is independent. We will earn a commission if you buy something through an affiliate link. Researchers compared…

Instagram is ramping up its efforts to attract more viewers on television in a way that may look very, well, old-school. Starting Monday, the Meta-owned social app will be testing out horizontal video on Instagram for TV, their preexisting feature that allows viewers to watch social videos on the big screen in their living room. And that’s not all. Coming soon, the company will also be experimenting with longer-form storytelling and episodic series with creators, in addition to trying live TV creator experiences on for size. The changes are timed to the launch of Instagram for TV on Samsung TV…
U.S. and Iranian negotiators concluded their first round of talks on Monday to turn an initial peace agreement into a lasting deal within 60 days.Pakistani and Qatari mediators said the countries had made “encouraging progress” and would proceed to discussions on technical details this week. But frictions over the Israel-Hezbollah conflict in Lebanon and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz could derail the negotiations. On Monday, the mediators laid out guardrails aimed at protecting the negotiations from these risks.
