Uchechukwu Orji An African film can be well written, beautifully shot and well-received at home, yet still struggle to find its way to audiences beyond its immediate market. As the continent’s film industry becomes more ambitious about reaching global audiences, the conversation is increasingly moving beyond the quality of the stories being told to the systems that determine how those stories travel. This question was at the heart of the International Sales and Distribution Executive (ISDE) Masterclass and Microdrama Masterclass organised by Nigerian International Film Summit (NIFS) in partnership with MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) on 24 August and 26 August…

Not the DOE’s job The court spends a fair bit of time analyzing the history and structure of the regulation of the US electric grid. With very little in the way of exceptions, this leaves regulation of generating capacity to the states; the federal government only gets involved when it comes to interstate transmission lines. It notes that the same Federal Power Act that’s at issue here, for example, “expressly denies [Federal Energy Regulatory Commission] authority to regulate generation facilities directly.” The court interprets this as an indication that Congress had intended for federal intervention at the level of generation…

Perhaps the most significant way in which Burnham is trying to make boldness easier for his ministers is by encouraging them to press ahead with policies when there is a risk they will face a serious legal challenge. The new attorney general, Ellie Reeves, has pared back rules introduced under Sir Keir which some ministers believed forced them to be over-cautious about legal risk, thereby slowing down or blocking new policies altogether.Louise Haigh, Burnham’s deputy, has vowed to “strip out needless bureaucracy” from government more generally, citing an example of there being three public consultations between 2019 and 2023 on…

Another meteor shower arrives later in November, with the Leonids expected to peak around 17 November. The Leonids can travel at about 70km per second as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere, making them some of the fastest meteors visible from Earth.Under ideal, dark sky conditions, around 10 to 15 Leonids an hour can be visible at the shower’s peak, although the actual number seen will depend on weather, light pollution and the brightness of the Moon. They get their name from the constellation Leo, from which the meteors appear to radiate. The best time to look is generally after midnight and before…

Rybakina rarely shows emotion on the court but there was a brief flash of a smile as she clinched her second major victory of an outstanding 2026 season. That illustrated the sense of satisfaction she felt after winning a title few had predicted – not because of her game but her history in New York. With her penetrating serve and thunderous groundstrokes, Rybakina has a brand of first-strike tennis that can take the racquet out of anyone’s hands. Therefore it has been a surprise she has not enjoyed greater success on the Flushing Meadows hard courts, perhaps a result of her personality not…

In London, Dosanjh’s crowd was largely – but not entirely – South Asian. The hype for his appearance was building all afternoon, with fans arriving early to get in place.”MJ [Michael Jackson] and Madonna, he’s that level for us,” said one fan. “He’s so good looking, and so down to earth,” said another. When he came on the stage shortly after 8pm, dressed in traditional attire, the stadium erupted and the screams barely stopped for the next two-and-a-bit hours.Known for his high-energy performances, he wowed fans with his dance routines to songs including Hass Hass and Born to Shine. His soulful voice echoed…

Giving an answer to a question that is asked at a free-flowing press conference is one thing, but Donald Trump repeated his sentiments a short time later when he was delivering a speech to an invited audience at the US Ambassador’s residence. In fact it was almost the first thing he mentioned, hinting that maybe he realised he had kicked over a can of worms at his earlier appearance. The rest of that speech was curious. It was billed as a 20-minute address to Irish and Irish American business leaders, but was about twice that and strayed largely into domestic US…
