Nigeria’s Super Falcons produced a ruthless attacking display to thrash Egypt 6-2 on Wednesday night, booking a quarter-final showdown against old rivals Cameroon at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
The record 10-time African champions dominated proceedings at the Stade Moulay Hassan, delivering one of their most convincing performances of the tournament to finish the group stage.

Oshoala, Monday fire Nigeria ahead
Nigeria took the lead in the 21st minute after a VAR review awarded a penalty for handball, with Asisat Oshoala calmly converting from the spot.
Gift Monday doubled the Super Falcons’ advantage in first-half stoppage time, finishing off a well-worked short-corner routine involving Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide.
Egypt responded with a goal before halftime, reducing the deficit to 2-1 and briefly reviving hopes of a comeback.
Super Falcons run riot after the break
The Super Falcons tightened their grip on the contest after the restart, with substitute Uchenna Kanu restoring Nigeria’s two-goal cushion in the 57th minute after finishing confidently with her left foot.
Nigeria continued to pile on the pressure and were rewarded with two more VAR-awarded penalties late in the game.
Christy Ucheibe converted the first in the 80th minute, before captain Rasheedat Ajibade added a fifth from the spot eight minutes later, putting the result beyond doubt.
Joy Omewa completed the rout deep into stoppage time, tapping home after a superb move involving Gift Monday and Ajibade to score her maiden WAFCON goal and seal a comprehensive 6-2 victory.
Cameroon await in quarter-finals
The emphatic victory sends the Super Falcons into the knockout stage brimming with confidence as they continue their bid for an 11th WAFCON title.
Nigeria will now face familiar foes Cameroon in the quarter-finals, with a place in the last four at stake as the tournament enters its decisive phase.
