The Department of Communication of Parliament announced that this was discussed during a subcommittee meeting on education reforms held in Parliament, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education Dr Harini Amarasuriya.
Under the proposed new reforms, several main changes are scheduled to take place:
Plans are in place to limit the total number of subjects to seven, including history and aesthetic studies.
Additionally, steps will be taken to introduce vocational education for school students starting from Grades 10 and 11, while modules covering social cohesion, law, and ethics will be included for Grades 12 and 13 in senior secondary education.
As an initial step, activity books, teacher guides, and modules required for Grades 2 and 6 were prepared, and ongoing work including the implementation of teacher training programmes was disclosed.
