Classifying Olivia Rodrigo’s music can be tough. According to the Grammys, she is more often than not slotted into pop categories, but when it comes to the Billboard charts, Rodrigo is often a rock — and especially an alternative — queen.
It is on alternative rankings where multiple smashes by the Grammy winner return this frame. Rodrigo bounds back onto several lists with different tunes, all of which are featured on her latest blockbuster album You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.
Olivia Rodrigo Scores Two Alternative Comebacks
Two Rodrigo tracks return to the Hot Alternative Songs chart this week, and they sit side-by-side. “U + Me = <3” reenters at No. 23, while “My Way” is back one space lower, at No. 24.
Both tunes have performed considerably better on the ranking in the past. “My Way” has climbed as high as No. 3, while “U + Me = <3” peaked at No. 6. As they return, both tracks celebrate 10 weeks as two of the 25 most popular alternative tunes in the United States.
“Maggots for Brains” Returns to Another Billboard Chart
“Maggots for Brains” also mounts a comeback, though on a different – but related – alternative-focused roster. The song reenters the Alternative Streaming Songs chart at No. 24.
The Hot Alternative Songs chart measures the overall popularity of tracks in that one style, with multiple forms of consumption dictating where a title lands. The Alternative Streaming Songs tally looks specifically at plays on streaming platforms.
Olivia Rodrigo Fills Even More Rock and Alternative Charts
All three of Rodrigo’s returning favorites can also be found elsewhere on Billboard’s rankings. “U + Me = <3” and “My Way” both gain ground on the more all-encompassing Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, rising to Nos. 24 and 26, respectively.
“Maggots for Brains” is in the middle of an even busier frame. The track climbs to No. 16 on both the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, while returning to the Alternative Streaming Songs tally. The cut also improves to No. 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 166 on the Billboard Global 200, though those positions are far from its previously-set peaks.
Olivia Rodrigo’s “Serena Joy” Debuts on Three Charts
Rodrigo’s recently-released hit “Serena Joy” debuts on three Billboard rankings this week. The composition opens at No. 22 on both the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts, while launching much higher – all the way up at No. 3 – on the Bubbling Under Hot 100.
That top 10 start is certainly a win, but it also comes as a slight disappointment. “Serena Joy” is now Rodrigo’s first proper single to miss the Billboard Hot 100, at least so far. The Bubbling Under Hot 100 ranks the most popular songs that have not yet reached the main tally, though “Serena Joy” could lift onto the more competitive roster in the coming days and weeks.
Olivia Rodrigo Reaches New Radio Peaks
Two other Rodrigo singles reach new highs on radio charts this frame. “Stupid Song” climbs to No. 16 on the Pop Airplay tally and No. 34 on the Radio Songs roster, establishing new peak positions on both rosters simultaneously.
“Drop Dead” also improves at radio in the U.S. The former Billboard Hot 100 leader steps up one space to No. 6 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart, which marks a new peak for the single.
