A man who was struck by lightning while holding an umbrella in Staten Island, New York, has recounted the terrifying experience, revealing that he felt tingling, numbness, and burning pain throughout his body.
The survivor, Thomas Fahmy, disclosed this in a video shared by CNN on Instagram on Thursday, following the circulation of a viral video showing the moment a bright flash struck him while walking, sending him to the ground.
Describing the immediate aftermath of the strike, Fahmy said he regained his footing moments later and walked into a neighbour’s house for safety.
“Once the lightning struck me, the initial sensations that I had throughout my whole body were like tingling, numbness, pain. Just, I feel this burning sensation,” he said.
Fahmy was reportedly later taken to hospital, where he said doctors conducted multiple full-body examinations but found no burns. He also said he did not lose consciousness during the incident.
Following the ordeal, Fahmy said he went to church on Sunday to express his gratitude to God.
“I went to church on Sunday too to say thank you God,” he said.
