Heineken is building on a decade-long partnership with Lagos Fashion Week as the annual fashion platform returns, using fashion, music and nightlife to deepen its engagement with Nigeria’s growing creative economy.
The beer brand marked 10 years of its association with Lagos Fashion Week at the 2025 edition, a relationship that has coincided with the growth of Nigeria’s fashion industry and the emergence of Lagos as a major African creative hub.
A major highlight of last year’s edition was Heineken’s “City of Cities” showcase, which positioned Lagos itself as the inspiration for a collection that brought together fashion, music, dance and other forms of cultural expression.
The showcase featured a 46-piece collection curated by Omoyemi Akerele and presented designs from leading African designers. The collection incorporated materials and techniques including raffia, sequins and hand-beading, reflecting different elements of Lagos’ visual and cultural identity.
The event also extended beyond the runway, with the LOUD Urban Choir opening the performance with a choral interpretation of Lagos before a dance tribute to Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.
The choir’s performance was subsequently released as the first part of Lagos Fashion Week’s “City of Cities” performance series, extending the activation to digital audiences beyond those who attended the physical event.
Heineken also linked the fashion programme with Lagos’ nightlife culture, hosting an after-party featuring performances by Adekunle Gold and sets from DJs including Dope Caesar, DJ Consequence and DJ Tinny.
The 2025 edition also attracted international attention, with American singer Ciara making a high-profile appearance during the fashion week.
For Heineken, the activities reflect an approach that increasingly places brands within cultural experiences rather than limiting their presence to conventional event sponsorship.
The partnership with Lagos Fashion Week has given the brand a platform to associate itself with Nigeria’s fashion, music and creative industries while providing access to an audience spanning designers, artists, entrepreneurs and culture enthusiasts.
As Lagos Fashion Week prepares for another edition, the 2025 milestone offers a measure of how the partnership has evolved from a fashion sponsorship into a broader cultural platform connecting fashion with music, nightlife and the creative economy.
