On 30 October 2014, Science published the Report “Host genetic diversity enables Ebola hemorrhagic fever pathogenesis and resistance” by A. L. Rasmussen et al. (1). The authors were recently made aware that figs. S3, S5, and S6 were published with incorrect images. In fig. S3, images of resistant mock-infected spleen (fig. S3C) and liver (fig. S3O) on day 3 after infection were inadvertently prepared from the same source image. Original data are not available to correct the figure. Higher-magnification images from the same conditions remain in the supplemental materials, with fig. S3D showing spleen and fig. S3P showing liver. In figs. S5 and S6, panels C, D, F, G, H, K, L, N, O, and P were inadvertently prepared from the same source images and duplicated in both figures. Original data are not available to correct the figures. The conclusion that there are similar levels of inflammation in spleen and liver remains supported by data in fig. S4 but is weakened by removing the corroborating data in fig. S5. Science is posting this Editor’s Note to alert readers to these issues. We are not taking further action because the main conclusions of the paper remain supported.
