NASDAQ-listed IT services company Cognizant has secured another legal victory in its trademark dispute with Bengaluru-based Atyati Technologies after the Bombay High Court dismissed Atyati’s interim injunction application.
The order marks the latest development in the long-running dispute over Cognizant’s use of a logo challenged by Atyati and comes months after the Supreme Court of India restored an earlier Bombay High Court order that had refused to continue an interim injunction against the IT services company.
“We welcome the Honourable Bombay High Court’s favourable order, which reaffirms our position that our actions were lawful, appropriate, and in full compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Cognizant is firmly committed to complying with the laws, regulations, and judicial orders in every jurisdiction in which we operate,” a Cognizant spokesperson said in response to Moneycontrol’s queries.
How the dispute reached this stage
The trademark dispute has witnessed multiple rounds of litigation.
A Single Judge of the Bombay High Court had initially refused to continue an interim injunction sought by Atyati against Cognizant’s use of the disputed mark.
However, in August 2025, a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Sandeep V. Marne set aside that order and restrained Cognizant from using the logo. Following the ruling, Cognizant removed the logo from its profiles on LinkedIn, X, Facebook and YouTube, while continuing to display only its wordmark.

Cognizant subsequently challenged the Division Bench’s order before the Supreme Court through a Special Leave Petition.
After hearing both parties, the apex court set aside the Division Bench’s ruling, restored the Single Judge’s earlier order refusing to continue the injunction, and directed the Bombay High Court to dispose of Atyati’s interim injunction application within six months.
Bombay High Court rejects interim plea
In line with the Supreme Court’s direction, the Bombay High Court has now dismissed Atyati’s interim injunction application, handing Cognizant another victory at the interim stage of the trademark dispute.
The dismissal means Cognizant will not face interim restrictions based on Atyati’s application while the underlying trademark suit continues to be adjudicated on its merits.
Trademark suit to continue
The case stems from Atyati’s allegations that Cognizant’s logo infringes its trademark rights. Cognizant has consistently denied the allegations, maintaining that its use of the disputed mark is lawful and compliant with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
While the latest order settles the question of interim relief, the underlying trademark dispute between the two companies will continue before the Bombay High Court.
