By Godwin Oritse & Efe Onodjae There are indications of festering disagreements over the implementation of the National Single Window (NSW), a centralized digital portal launched by the Federal Government in March this year to address delays in import-export processing at the ports. It allows importers and exporters to submit trade documents once, replacing duplicate paperwork across multiple agencies. President of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), Lucky Amiwero, told Vanguard that the system is not operating as envisaged, urging the government to hand over the implementation to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS). But Customs itself…
The incident has already spurred Roderich Kiesewetter, a lawmaker and member of the German parliament’s intelligence committee, to more directly describe Russia as being responsible for the “attempted act of terrorism.” As a major hub for air cargo, Leipzig/Halle airport frequently oversees the transit of shipments for NATO and the German military. It is also the current home base for Ukraine’s Antonov Airlines, which operates a charter cargo service fleet that includes the world’s largest operational cargo aircraft, the Antonov An-124 Ruslan. The incident also evoked a potentially telling reaction from Alexander Sosnowski, a pro-Kremlin propagandist who regularly appears as…
Jonathan Eze writes that parliamentarians with a demonstrable record of legislative engagements like Hon Ndudi Elumelu are likely to play an important role in enriching debates and strengthening oversight in the House of Representatives in the coming 11th National Assembly, as he’s set to once again get the nod of the electorate in Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency. In every democratic legislature, there are lawmakers who merely occupy seats, and there are those whose presence fundamentally shape national conversations. Over the years, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State in the House of Representatives, has consistently belonged to the…

The Norwegian FA will ask Gianni Infantino to resign with immediate effect after his doomed attempt to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. Norway is the first federation to call directly for the Fifa president to step down after a series of controversies that came to a head with the current crisis surrounding his Fifa Forward Enterprise scheme. The decision was made in a meeting of the Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) on Thursday night. Norway has consistently taken a lead in efforts to scrutinise Fifa’s governance and recent events have taken any faith in its leadership beyond the…

Darul Qasim’s influence extends beyond its own classrooms through scholars who now teach and lead communities across the Chicago area. For Imam Haroon Ahmed, a graduate of the college who now serves as director of Islamic affairs at the Islamic Foundation, overseeing its mosque and school, the impact is measured through individual lives rather than institutional reach. Much of his development as a scholar and imam, he says, was shaped and tested during his years at Masjid Uthman and Uthman Academy, a mosque and Islamic school serving Chicago’s western suburbs. After Jummah, the Friday congregational prayer, Ahmed remains in the prayer hall…
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has revealed that the state is facing a shortage of approximately 40,000 doctors and 40,000 nurses, warning that the healthcare system also requires at least N100 billion more than its current budget to adequately cater to the state’s growing population. The governor disclosed this on Thursday at the opening of the second Eko Health Convention held at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. According to him, Lagos currently has about 7,000 doctors, far below what is required to meet the healthcare needs of residents. “Lagos needs about 40,000 doctors to serve this population properly. We…
