The “Olodo Syndrome” is a deep-seated systemic choice to reward short-term appearance over long-term structural integrity. When a society systematically separates rewards from actual performance, mediocrity stops being an accident and becomes a rational survival strategy. When structure is treated as a scam, individuals stop building for scale and begin optimising for transactional “vibes” and internal extraction. This essay explores the sequential, self-reinforcing downward spiral of this cognitive inversion—from the highest layers of national governance down to the micro-family unit. Pillar 1: Macro Governance & Financial Stagnation The structural decay begins at the absolute top, where the fundamental rules of…

The faction, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, also called on President Bola Tinubu to immediately suspend government officials linked to the scandal, particularly his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila. Mr Ememobong further urged the President to reorganise the Presidency and issue an unreserved apology to Nigerians, stating that the…

Entering the small studio tasked with containing this ambitious livewire of a football drama, the action is already in full swing. Charlton Athletic’s Victory and Youssef, in Nigeria to try out for the last two spots on the country’s World Cup squad, are doing drills, while their coach (a buoyant Jerome Ngonadi) collars audience members to take penalties. I miss spectacularly; the production does quite the opposite.Part of the Ryan Calais Cameron season – the Olivier-nominated playwright chose three early-career Black and Global Majority writers to receive financial backing and mentorship – its writer, Justice Ezi, is a clear talent,…
The Chief of Staff to the President , Femi Gbajabiamila (PHOTO CREDIT: @femigbaja) The late Chief Joseph Folahan (JF) Odunjo left behind an allegory that perfectly mirrors today’s most notorious national scandal. It explains the infamy surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila and allegedly self-appointed DG of Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC) and the Presidential Economic Advisory Council, (PEAC) Adeniyi Adeyemi. Celebrated for his indigenous production of knowledge, Odunjo’s most imperishable legacy remains his role as a writer and educator. His iconic Yoruba children’s literature, the Alawiye (Careful Explainer) series, served as foundational texts for primary school pupils from the 1960s through the 1980s. These books…
