When Channel 4 announced that it would air a documentary titled The Great ADHD Myth?, an outpouring of fury followed. Despite this, I set out to approach it as a scientist – not just as a scientist whose own work has dealt with developmental disorders, but as someone who has enormous respect for the scientific process and for the importance of evidence-led debate.Channel 4’s press release claimed the documentary sought to determine whether attention deficit hyperactivity disorder was a “genuine neurodevelopmental disorder, or a social construct”. At one level this is a brave enterprise. ADHD is recognised worldwide as a…

On the North Carolina-based band Wednesday’s excellent 2025 album Bleeds, one of the highlights was a song called “Townies.” Based in frontperson and songwriter Karly Hartzman’s vivid lyricism, it cast a stilted but darkly sympathetic look into the assholes of our past. (You’ll likely hear it live if you’re in Nashville for the band’s Nov. 2 stop on the Rolling Stone Rock Tour.) “You were 16 and bored and drunk, and they’re just townies,” Hartzman sings. She wasn’t talking about the band called Townies — yes, there is one — but the Boston-based trio paid attention anyway. On Aug. 12…

The presidency has criticised ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar for saying he would restore some form of petrol subsidy if elected president next year. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga accused Atiku of being “desperate for power” by reversing his stance on subsidy removal, having been a proponent before the 2023 general elections. “Even though he used to believe that the subsidy regime must be eliminated, a point he canvassed in the run-up to his defeat in the 2023 election, he has now opportunistically recanted the major plank of his economic doctrine and turned a renegade,” he wrote. PREMIUM TIMES reported that Atiku…
