Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has declared the activities of a group reportedly operating under the name Hisba in parts of Jos North Local Government Area illegal and ordered security agencies to immediately halt its operations. The directive was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr Mutfwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere. The governor also directed the agencies to identify and investigate persons allegedly involved in the activities and prosecute those found culpable. Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, on Sunday received Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, at his residence in Port Harcourt, in a fresh move to consolidate the reconciliation between the two political allies. Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune has said he wants to reinstate the death penalty for arsonists, following a wave of forest fires that have killed at least 12 people.The president ordered the justice ministry to introduce changes to the criminal law introducing capital punishment for arsonists.
