Artificial-intelligence models can be used for tasks ranging from coding to taking meeting notes, depending on a laboratory’s requirements. Credit: da-kuk/GettyAs artificial intelligence pervades scientific research, journals, institutions and classrooms are all adopting their own rules on how to use large language models. But how can individual laboratories decide on the best ways to use AI to enhance their work? It depends on the research values that your team prioritizes, a white paper suggests. The paper, posted on the arXiv preprint server by a team of space-science researchers in July1 and not yet peer reviewed, suggests that there’s no one-size-fits-all…

Donald Trump is going to get his gilded White House ballroom thanks to the Supreme Court, but not with Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr’s blessing. The “construction is likely unlawful,” the Chief Justice wrote today in a dissent to SCOTUS’ 5-4 decision in favor of the $600 million and climbing costing venue. “The White House is not just any building …in failing to appreciate as much, the Court misconceives the plaintiff ’s injury, allowing the Executive’s likely infringement of the Legislature’s power of the purse and authority to regulate federal property in the District of Columbia to continue,” lifelong…
By Ola Olukoyede The past 34 months have been a period of work, commitment and passionate engagement in the fight against economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption. I took on this assignment with a clear commitment to do things differently. At my confirmation before the National Assembly, I outlined a three pronged agenda as the anchor of my stewardship. To the glory of God, we have kept faith with the agenda of proper focusing on the mandate of the EFCC in the overall interests of Nigerians, using the instrumentality of the anti-graft war to stimulate growth in…
Reacting to the ruling, Trump posted that he was “pleased” the “baseless” lawsuit had failed to halt construction.”We are living in the Golden Age of America, and this Building will be one of the Greatest ever constructed in Washington, DC,” he said.Trump has long argued that the White House needs a larger events space, and more recently, that it was important for his security. The Republican president emphasised the need for the ballroom after an alleged assassination attempt at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in April. But the National Trust for Historic Preservation argued that construction was causing irreversible damage to…

JMGO’s 4K 120Hz Iris Ultra Max all-in-one Google TV projector is now available outside China. It gets its name from a new dual-iris system that lets it produce an impressive 10,000:1 native contrast, according to JMGO. It boosts the contrast — always an issue with projectors — by placing two separate physical apertures (irises) along different points of the internal optical path to control light scatter and brightness far more aggressively than a single iris can. It also promises to produce a very bright 6,500 ISO lumen image from its triple-laser light engine.Last year at IFA, 6,000 lumens from an…
