Former Cross River State Governor and presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has described President Bola Tinubu as a formidable politician but criticised his administration’s performance in governance. Duke spoke on Monday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he assessed Tinubu’s political standing ahead of the 2027 presidential election. The PRP candidate said he did not believe Tinubu was politically stronger than he was in 2023, arguing that the President had lost some of the public sympathy he enjoyed during the last election. “I don’t think so, I think his governance has exposed…
Future quantum computers may depend on the ability to connect widely separated modules through distributed entanglement. Until now, creating this kind of connection has generally required active control and repeated measurements. Physicists at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (ISTA) have now demonstrated a fully autonomous alternative based on a “quantum bath” made from correlated particles of light. Published in Physical Review X, the experiment provides the first demonstration of a prediction proposed more than 20 years ago. The approach could eventually offer a new foundation for practical quantum technologies. Connecting Distant Quantum Bits Entanglement is one of the…

I was left having to foot all our bills, including rent, which has made me financially stressed. We had a family plan with O2 which meant family phones were all registered to my account. When my partner left, he stopped paying his share of the monthly phone bill, so I set about trying to remove his, and his children’s, phones from the account. O2 explained he would need to join a conference call with me and O2 to agree the transfer of the numbers in question.Getting…
The Committee for the Defence of Human Rights on Tuesday condemned the reported use of tear gas and force against pensioners protesting on Monday over unpaid pensions, gratuities and other entitlements at the Lagos State House of Assembly. The rights group, in a statement signed by its National President, Yinka Folarin, and General Secretary, Idris Afees, described the alleged action against the elderly protesters as “inhumane, unacceptable and a serious affront to human dignity.” The pensioners were reportedly at the Assembly complex on Monday to demand the payment of their outstanding entitlements after years of service to the Lagos State…

In November 2023 – a lifetime ago in the field of artificial intelligence – some of the most powerful people in the world descended on Bletchley Park, the wartime codebreaking hub in Buckinghamshire, to talk about AI safety. In attendance were the then US vice-president, Kamala Harris, the AI bosses Sam Altman and Dario Amodei, delegations from 28 countries, two of the three so-called “godfathers” of AI, and Elon Musk. The first iteration of ChatGPT had been released only a year earlier, and there was already plenty of evidence that AI models could be used for ill, from spreading misinformation to…
