Lawyers representing opposing sides in a suit challenging President Bola Tinubu’s eligibility to contest the 2027 presidential election disagreed on Tuesday on the service of the filings in the case on Mr Tinubu. The suit was instituted by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the Federal High Court in Abuja. Judge Inyang Ekwo adjourned the matter until 28 September for further mention. Two events I came across yesterday captured the state of Nigeria’s police-public relations with unsettling clarity. In Port Harcourt, angry youths blocked Agip Road to protest the killing of Anthony Obodo, a 22-year-old University of Port Harcourt graduate murdered by a police officer. The youths’ anger is not hard to understand. The Rivers State police commissioner, who warned that the protest could be “hijacked by hoodlums”, completely missed the point. Apple Maps has officially changed the name of Lake Ontario to Lake America, as reported earlier by Bloomberg. The company joins Google in re-labeling the Great Lake following an executive order signed by President Donald Trump in the midst of a trade dispute with Canada.The Canadian version of Apple Maps still shows “Lake Ontario” when panning over the area, while international versions of the app show both names, according to Bloomberg. Google updated its map shortly after the name change went live in the US Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), but Apple waited a bit longer.

For the sixth time in history, a team of two women completed a spacewalk outside the International Space Station.Nasa astronaut Jessica Meir and French astronaut Sophie Adenot suited up for a 6.5-hour spacewalk. Meir rode the station’s Canadarm2 robotic arm to the worksites, while Adenot remained tethered to the station.Meir previously made history in 2019 when she and Nasa astronaut Christina Koch completed the first ever all-female spacewalk.This event marked the 284th spacewalk in support of space station assembly, maintenance and upgrades, and the seventh spacewalk of the year.
