Sadiq Khan’s office has revealed he was the victim of a scam that led to him being fined for failing to tax a car that did not belong to him.The London mayor was found guilty last month under a system of “conveyor-belt justice”, in which magistrates decide on hundreds of cases a day, sometimes spending less than a minute on each.City Hall officials say the 24-year-old Nissan Micra did not belong to Khan or Transport for London. The mayor has been the focus of protests by motorists angry at the expansion of the ultra-low emission zone in London. My first encounter with a Prop 65 warning was on the back of my TV.I was selling it on Facebook Marketplace, and when the buyer arrived to pick it up, he spotted a warning I had never noticed. “California Proposition 65 Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or reproductive harm.” Neither of us had seen such a label before, and for a moment, he didn’t want the TV anymore. We did what anyone would do in this situation: We Googled it. He ended up taking the TV. I kept…
The weekly ritual that sits at the heart of Westminster’s public image beckons, the half an hour or so of verbal jousting at Prime Minister’s Questions (PMQs).Prime ministerial memoirs tell the stories of how central a moment it is in the week of any occupant of 10 Downing Street.Sir Tony Blair wrote that “PMQs was the most nerve wracking, discombobulating, nail biting, bowel moving, terror inspiring, courage draining experience in my prime ministerial life, without question”.Now, for the first time, it is Andy Burnham’s turn to feel those nerves. And yet, curiously, the questions at lunchtime may well feel like…
Hiroshimaite. Shortly before the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima in August, researchers revealed how the high-energy explosion created a new type of alloy that has been found in a fragment of ‘hiroshimaite’ rock, a term for fallout debris. The alloy, imaged here with a scanning electron microscope and described in Science Advances, is made from seven elements. The nuclear detonation produced temperatures higher than 1,800 °C, and researchers say this provided a natural laboratory for the creation of new multicomponent alloys. These often have properties that are difficult to achieve with normal alloys — such as high strength and ductility. Luca…
The impressive main event performances in this season’s Dana White’s Contender Series events continued on Tuesday with Adam Darby’s third-round stoppage of Patrick Rivera at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.Darby, the current Cage Warriors welterweight champion, used his long 6-foot-3 frame to keep the shorter Rivera at bay from the opening bell. With the distance established, Darby worked behind long straight punches and kicks as Rivera struggled to build any momentum.Darby showed a patient, professional approach, never pressing his advantage too hard and simply picking away at Rivera.By the end of the second round, Rivera’s face was bloodied and…

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has issued new emergency guidance on using the licensed Ervebo vaccine during outbreaks of Bundibugyo virus disease, now limiting its use to research protocols. The organisation made this known in a statement on Tuesday, saying the guidance followed an extraordinary meeting of the Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunisation held on 19 August, 2026. WHO said Ervebo should currently be used against Bundibugyo virus only within a research protocol to generate evidence on its effectiveness, rather than through broader routine outbreak vaccination. According to the organisation, a ring vaccination randomised controlled trial would be…
