Key eventsWith Osaka over, I’m back with Khachanov, who’s taken the third set 6-2 to lead Auger-Aliassime 2-1. There’d be no shame for the no 3 seed in losing to so good an opponent, but it’s matches like this that make you think he can’t get much better than he is, his second serve and backhand not loads better than they were five years ago.ShareThe Court 11 classic is nearly over, Bouzkova now leading Dart 6-2 4-o; Keys holds to love for 6-5 in the third, and Bondaer, having twice failed to serve out the match, must now do so…
Gloria Steinem never held elected office. She never ran for one, never seemed particularly interested in pursuing power inside the governing systems she strove so hard to change. Steinem was, over the course of her lifelong activism, a beacon of the manner in which Americans can shape their nation for the better, without ever having to put their name on a ballot. Steinem died on Monday at the age of 92, after nearly seven decades as a leading figure in the women’s liberation movement, and a defining voice of American feminism. A writer, journalist, organizer, and activist, Steinem’s life was…
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Sule Lamido University Kafin Hausa (SLUK) branch, has issued a two-week ultimatum to the Jigawa State Government to implement the new university salary structure or face a full-scale industrial action. The threat was contained in a press release dated 1 September, and signed by the ASUU-SLUK chairperson, Idris Chiromawa. According to the union, members had exercised patience while operating under lower pay for roughly seven months following the approved new salary package. ASUU-SLUK noted that while several other state-owned universities across the country have since implemented the agreement, the Jigawa State Government has…
Beneficiaries of a Federal Government motorised solar-powered borehole project in Nasarawa State have expressed concern over the facility’s failure a month after its installation. The beneficiaries, from Kufan Gwani Bakin Ayini in Kokona Local Government Area, said the borehole only functioned for about one month before it stopped dispensing water. The project is implemented under the National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC). Mohammed Haruna, a resident of the community, said the project had remained non-functional since the contractor left the site. “The project is yet to be fully operational seven months after completion,” Mr Haruna said. He alleged…

Microsoft says it will let anyone access Xbox Cloud Gaming in November, without the need to subscribe to Xbox Game Pass. The change to a pay-as-you-go model is part of some sweeping changes to Xbox Cloud Gaming today, and is designed for people who don’t use cloud access enough to warrant a monthly subscription.“Players will be able to purchase cloud playtime hours through the Xbox Store and stream eligible games they own on supported devices,” says the Xbox team. “This will provide another option for people who want occasional access to cloud gaming or do not want a recurring Game…
