Parents today ask their children a lot of questions. And usually for the right reasons: They want to be respectful and collaborative.I hear them asking for buy-in on daily decisions (“What would you like for dinner?”), disguising frustration as questions (“How many times do I have to tell you?”), or negotiating when a clear boundary would work better (“What if we do your bath first, then watch another show?”).Questions can absolutely help build connection and encourage reflection, but they often backfire by creating confusion and unnecessary power struggles.I’ve worked with more than 5,000 families as a preschool teacher, professor and…
And woe betide you if you still had a 486…or slower. (A single-disc DVD re-release of the game with better-looking video eventually happened, but not for a couple of years—in 1995, DVD was still a ways off.) Ambition, or indulgence? Wing Commander 4’s narrative is best described as “sprawling.” The short version is that after defeating the Kilrathi at the climax of Wing Commander 3, Mark Hamill’s Christopher Blair retires to a backwater world to live out a life in peace and obscurity. This is interrupted—because of course it is—by a surge of pirate activity near the “border worlds,” a…
During the 2023 leadership contest, Yousaf defended his decision to miss the final vote on Scotland’s equal marriage legislation after it was claimed he had arranged a meeting as cover.Yousaf insisted he had an “unavoidable” engagement about a death row prisoner in Pakistan, adding: “I support equal marriage. I supported it then, support it now.”Asked earlier this week if he would have attended the ARC event, First Minister John Swinney replied: “I certainly wouldn’t speak at a conference like that because I’m going to have nothing to do with Reform.”In response to a separate question about political disquiet, Forbes said…

Morocco became the first team to book a place in the quarter-finals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after a clinical 3-0 victory over Canada, extending their remarkable unbeaten run in regulation time to 34 matches. The Atlas Lions, Africa’s only surviving representatives alongside Egypt, once again underlined their growing status among world football’s elite with a disciplined and efficient display in the Round of 16 encounter. After a fiercely contested first half that produced more yellow cards than shots on target, Morocco eventually broke the deadlock five minutes into the second half through Azzedine Ounahi. The midfielder curled a…

As America turns 250, leaders of our colleges and universities have been wringing their hands, wondering how higher education will fit into the future of the nation. Has scholarship grown too political? Have schools lost their way because they have resisted—or failed to resist—authoritarian demands from the White House? Is the educational enterprise doomed because of new technologies? As we celebrate the founding of this nation, it’s a good moment to recall what the founders had in mind. The founders believed strongly in the importance of higher education. A healthy Republic depended on having citizens who could exercise judgment in…

Former President of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Hassan Adebayo Sunmonu, has paid tribute to the late historian, Samuel Olusegun Osoba, describing him as one of the intellectual forces who transformed Nigeria’s trade union movement and strengthened its resistance to economic policies championed by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. Speaking at the event, Sunmonu said Osoba played a pivotal role in bringing intellectuals into the labour movement and…
