Nigeria has become a major hub for the illegal trade of vultures, conservationists say, partly because of its biodiversity and porous borders.”We are doing everything possible to make sure that the smuggling of items, including vultures, including donkeys, and other species outside the country is suppressed to the barest minimum,” insists Abdullahi Maiwada, a spokesman for the Nigerian Customs Service. He says customs officials have carried out seizures of protected wildlife and supported prosecutions linked to illegal trafficking. It is an example of how Nigeria is trying to live up its commitments as a member of the Convention on International Trade in…

When Big Brother introduced “The Gambit” in the first week of Season 11, it gave viewers a rather unusual choice. One male and one female housemate would be guaranteed a place until the finale, but permanently barred from winning the ₦160 million grand prize. On paper, it was a strategic decision. Viewers could identify potential threats, protect housemates they felt were valuable to the show, or simply keep certain people around while taking away their shot at the money. But what happened with the votes revealed something we already know too well: sometimes, Nigerians vote with their feelings first. Flora…

The match, officiated by Nigerian referee Yemisi Akintoye, who was making her second appearance at these finals following her assignment for the Senegal-Kenya group game on July 30, produced two first-half red cards and a string of chances at both ends before Malawi held on to book a place…

The shift I have witnessed When I look back at the evolution of data science, what stands out to me is how much the discipline has changed, not just in the tools we use, but in the way we think about solving problems. In the early stages of my career, data science was often defined by the amount of work required before meaningful insights could be uncovered. A significant part of our time was spent collecting data, cleaning imperfect datasets, building models from the ground up, and manually testing different approaches to understand what worked best. That process required patience…

OPEYEMI BAMIDELE urges all to play by the rules in the governorship election The governorship election in Osun State is just 48 hours away. An additional 0.17mbpd of condensate was produced during the month, bringing total average daily production of crude oil and condensate to 1.67mbpd. However, the July…
