As Kaduna State moves steadily towards another governorship election, the African Democratic Congress (ADC)’s greatest challenge may not simply be to capitalise on the ruling APC’s declining popularity in some quarters. Rather it will be convincing voters that it possesses the internal cohesion, principled leadership and policy direction required to govern effectively. The choice of the party’s governorship candidate will therefore be decisive. Regrettably, following the conduct of the party’s governorship primary election which initially produced Isa Ashiru Kudan as winner, the ADC has been plunged into an avoidable crisis that the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) appears either unwilling…
The Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO) has pledged to cooperate fully with the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) in its investigation into major global technology companies and generative artificial intelligence (AI) platforms, saying it will provide all necessary evidence to support the inquiry. The body issued the pledge in a statement signed by its Vice President, Frank Aigbogun, on Friday, noting that the move to investigate the tech giants will challenge the tech companies’ lack of transparency and accountability in their operations in Nigeria. On Monday, President Bola Tinubu directed the FCCPC to investigate major global tech companies over…
Last year, we told you about Xtra, the company that lets DJI sneak its popular cameras into the US, and Skyrover, a brand seemingly selling DJI drones in disguise. Posting studies on preprint servers such as bioRxiv is common practice in many scientific fields.Credit: Michael Szebor/NatureThe central conclusions of biomedical preprints rarely change following peer review in a journal1, according to a study posted on the preprint server bioRxiv this month. The research also found that studies that appeared first as preprints are retracted at roughly half the rate of papers that did not appear online before being in a peer-reviewed journal. The authors say the findings suggests that preprints are a reliable source of information, although some scientists say the finding should be interpreted more cautiously.Posting preprints is…

The Court of Appeal in Abuja has dismissed the bail application filed by jailed former Acting Accountant-General of the Federation, Chukwunyere Nwabuoku, pending the determination of his appeal against his conviction for laundering N868.5 million.
