Abba Kabir Yusuf has received the International Literacy and Learning Leadership Award in recognition of his administration’s education reforms, with organisers citing Kano State’s record allocation of 30 per cent of its budget to education as a major factor behind the honour. The award was presented by Universal Learning Solutions (ULS) at a ceremony held at the historic Stationers’ Hall in the City of London during activities marking the 20th anniversary of the Jolly Phonics programme in Africa. A statement issued on Saturday by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to the Kano State governor, said Muhammadu Sanusi II received the…

The source said: “He has the courage to fix the most difficult issues that have been ignored for years and seen as impossible to resolve. He doesn’t accept that they are. They can’t be ignored any longer.”The prime minister is determined to show that governments can make people’s lives better if they choose to. He wants to get Britain believing again.”Unlike the NHS, social care is not free at the point of use, and people with savings worth more than £23,250 are not entitled to help with the cost of care from their local council.Burnham would not be the first…
…ECOWAS reiterated its promise to reduce the airfares amongst its member states. But I wonder why the emphasis as regards regional transportation is not on building railways across the region and a coastal transport system, since eleven of the ECOWAS countries are along the coast. In my view, the 51-year-old ECOWAS is dozing. A dozen Heads of State of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) met in Lungi, Sierra Leone on 19 July. They issued the usually bland communique on a single currency, supported the illegal violation of a sister country’s sovereignty, and made false declarations on the…

Roman Roy did some pretty devilish things on “Succession,” so perhaps it makes sense that “Family Guy” has tapped star Kieran Culkin to play Satan in a new Halloween-themed special that will run exclusively on Hulu later this year. Culkin’s casting was announced Saturday during the “Family Guy” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where it was announced that the show has both a new Halloween and a holiday-time special set to premiere later this fall on both Hulu and (in most international markets) Disney+. The Halloween special, titled “Happy Hell-o-ween,” features Brian and Stewie as they find themselves in hell…
I can understand when some Africans argue that March and March (M&M) leaders like Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma and Andile Somgxada, Sandile Dube, should never be forgiven, and must be punished, for the pains, loss and violence they inflict on other Black people. But the African National Congress (ANC) and the government it controls, tolerated the M&M self-haters. If M&M had directed its hate, violence, and destruction against South African White capitalist monopoly companies like Gold Fields, Sibanye-Stillwater and Valterra Plantinum would the ANC have tolerated it? Definitely “no”! Under Jacob Zuma’s presidency, thirty-four striking miners were massacred on 16 August, 2012 in Marikana…
