What a lot of Krapp. Pardon my French but Samuel Beckett’s haunting 1958 masterpiece about regret and isolation is having a moment. Stephen Rea recently took Krapp’s Last Tape on an international tour, Gary Oldman returned to the stage after decades away to deliver the tragicomic one-man show and this summer Stockard Channing will direct it at the Edinburgh fringe, with David Westhead as Krapp. Beckett’s eponymous loner, who sits in his dark den and ritually listens to tapes he made as a younger man, is riding a new wave of popularity.Peter Marinker first played Krapp half a lifetime ago…

Africa added more than 4,200 megawatts (MW) of new hydropower capacity in 2025, making it a fast growing region for hydropower development globally, according to a new report released by the International Hydropower Association (IHA). The report, 2026 World Hydropower Outlook, said the continent commissioned 4,297 MW of new hydropower capacity during the year, the second consecutive year that additions exceeded 4,000 MW. The growth was driven largely by the completion of mega projects in Ethiopia and Tanzania, even as more than 90 per cent of Africa’s hydropower potential remains untapped. The findings come as Nigeria continues to grapple with…
The Nex Playground is the family-centric, Kinect-like game console that made one Verge editor’s kids laugh, cry, and ask for more playtime, even when they were sick. The motion-based game play isn’t perfect, but it has won over plenty of parents — and it’s on sale for $239 at Amazon, down from its current MSRP of $299. That’s a healthy discount, though only slightly better than the Nex’s original $250 price.Like so many other gadgets, the Nex Playground became a victim of RAMageddon when its price went up in April. It got a $60 discount shortly after for Amazon’s week…
The National Security Agency has lost access to a powerful A.I. model developed by Anthropic amid the Trump administration’s brawl with the start-up, U.S. officials said, depriving the intelligence agency of a tool that has impressed and alarmed its analysts with how good it is at finding software weaknesses. This month the Trump administration imposed export controls on Anthropic, citing national security concerns. That action forced Anthropic to pull back the release of its most advanced models, known as Mythos 5 and Fable 5.The N.S.A.’s cybersecurity analysts had been testing versions of Anthropic’s tools when the latest models were unplugged. The controlled…
