The United States Mission in Nigeria has opened applications for the 2026 EducationUSA Opportunity Funds Programme (OFP), a scheme designed to help academically outstanding but financially disadvantaged Nigerian students pursue higher education in the United States.
In an announcement published on the US Embassy website, EducationUSA said the programme targets high-achieving students with strong academic records, leadership potential, and a commitment to community service who may lack the financial resources needed to complete the US university application process.
“OFP is designed to support high-achieving students with strong academic performance and leadership potential to pursue US higher education opportunities successfully,” parts of the call for applications read.
“The programme reinforces US priorities on secure, lawful, and well-managed student participation in US higher education systems, ensuring participants understand and uphold the proper use of student visas and full compliance with US immigration regulations.”
How to apply
The statement said interested applicants can submit their applications through the EducationUSA Nigeria portal. The application process opened on 15 June and closes on 30 June, it added.
Benefits
The programme supports students seeking admission to US colleges and universities by covering various upfront application-related expenses, including standardised testing and application fees. The statement added that applicants will be assessed on their academic achievements, participation in extracurricular activities, leadership experience, community service, and demonstrated financial need.
