The Osun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service on Wednesday said it had yet to conclude the payment of election duty allowances to its personnel deployed for the August 15 governorship election in the state.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Joel Oyedokun, disclosed this in a telephone interview with The PUNCH, saying the allowances were being processed electronically.
He urged personnel who were yet to receive theirs to be patient.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that the command said it was working to ensure that the election duty allowances due to its personnel were paid.
The command also said the allowances included payments expected from both the federal and the state government.
“The NCoS authority has also assured personnel that their election allowances will be paid in due course.
“The command appreciates the patience and understanding of its personnel while the necessary processes are being concluded,” the statement signed by Oyedokun read.
The initial assurance followed The PUNCH’s exclusive report on the delay in the payment of election duty allowances to about 300 personnel of the command and operatives of other agencies under the Ministry of Interior deployed for the Osun poll.
However, despite the assurances, some personnel of the command complained that they were yet to receive the allowances.
Speaking on the fresh complaints about the delay in disbursing the money, Oyedokun allayed the fears of those who had not been paid.
He said, “The payment is being done electronically. The payment is still ongoing. They started paying on Friday; some got theirs on Monday and some on Tuesday. The payment has not been stopped. It is still ongoing. That is the situation.”
