OSOGBO, Osun State — August 16, 2026: The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has moved into the final stages of collating results from Saturday’s Osun State governorship election, as attention shifts to the official declaration of the winner.
INEC’s Result Viewing Portal (IReV) showed that 3,292 of the 3,763 expected polling-unit results had been uploaded by Saturday night, representing 87.48 per cent of the results. Further uploads resumed after a pause, with subsequent reports putting the number at 3,482 results.
The election has attracted significant attention as incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party and APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji remain the two leading contenders in the emerging results.
Vanguard reported that Adeleke maintained a lead as results from 331 of the state’s 332 wards had been reported. However, media tallies and results displayed on the IReV portal should not be treated as the official final result until INEC’s designated Returning Officer makes a formal declaration.
Tension reported during collation
The collation process has also been affected by reports of tension in Osogbo.
P.M. News reported that sporadic gunshots and the release of canisters caused panic around a collation centre, with people reportedly fleeing the area. Other reports similarly described disruption at a collation centre in the state capital.
