The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted the Class 10 second board examination from May 15 to May 21, 2026. However, 52 days later, the board has yet to announce the results or provide an official update, leaving thousands of students and parents in uncertainty.
The delay has become a growing concern, particularly for students seeking admission to Class 11, as many schools have already begun the new academic session.
One of the users on X took to the platform and posted, “Ignorance of the Class 10 2nd board results by CBSE reflects poor planning, lack of transparency, and complete disregard for students’ mental well-being. Thousands of students and parents are left anxious due to uncertainty and mismanagement.”
While another user posted, “Can you atleast give an update about Class 10 second board results?”
Similarly, several users on X have been continuously asking CBSE about the Class 10 second board results.
THE TWO-BOARD EXAMINATION SYSTEM
This year marked the first implementation of CBSE’s two-board examination system for Class 10. The new system allows students to improve their performance without waiting for a compartment examination and introduces the concept of “better marks.”
Under this policy, the higher score obtained in each subject across the two board examinations will be treated as the student’s final score. This means candidates who score lower on the second attempt will retain their higher marks from the first examination.
More than 6.68 lakh students are believed to have appeared for the second board examination this year. CBSE will issue a single final marksheet reflecting the best marks secured by a student in each subject.
According to CBSE data, 6,68,854 students registered for the second examination, including 85,285 compartment candidates and 5,25,655 students appearing for improvement of performance.
The prolonged wait has raised concerns among students applying for Class 11 admissions. Many families fear that the uncertainty could affect subject selection, school transfers, and fee-related planning, as several schools have already started the admission process and academic session.
THE ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
To be eligible for the CBSE Class 10 second board examination in 2026, students were required to appear in at least three subjects during Phase 1, conducted in February.
Candidates who were absent in three or more subjects in the February examination were classified as Essential Repeat candidates and were not eligible to appear for the Phase 2 examination held in May.
CBSE YET TO ANNOUNCE THE RESULT DATE
CBSE has not issued any official notification confirming the result date for the second board examination. Students and parents continue to await a formal announcement from the board regarding the release schedule.
As the wait continues, parents are urging CBSE to announce the result timeline at the earliest to avoid further uncertainty for students preparing to move to the next academic stage.
In the main CBSE Class 10 board examination 2026, over 23 lakh students appeared, with an overall pass percentage of 93.66 per cent.
