Inde Navarrette in “Obsession.”
Focus Features
Curry Barker’s Obsession, starring Inde Navarrette and Michael Johnston, is new on digital streaming this week as the blockbuster horror thriller keeps racking up big ticket sales at the box office worldwide.
Obsession, which had a production budget of $750,000, was acquired by Focus Features for about $15 million at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival. Written and directed by Barker, the film follows the harrowing plight of Bear (Johnston), a music store employee who has an enormous crush on his co-worker Nikki (Navarrette).
Convinced Nikki wants to keep him in the friend zone, Bear uses a new age novelty item called a “One Wish Willow” and wishes his crush would love him more than anyone in the world. It soon becomes apparent to Bear that his wish has come true, but before too long, Nikki becomes dangerously obsessed with him and is not afraid to go to deadly measures to protect their relationship.
Obsession also stars Barker’s That’s a Bad Idea YouTube sketch and Milk & Serial film collaborator Cooper Tomlinson, as well as Megan Lawless and Andy Richter.
Rated R, Obsession is on an unprecedented box office run considering the film’s $750,000 price tag before marketing expenses. After banking $17.1 million in its opening weekend domestically from May 15-17, Obsession’s business continued to increase in its second and third weekends in theaters before dropping to a lower but still lucrative revenue stream in weekends four, five and six.
Obsession earned $9.8 million from 2,965 North American theaters in its seventh weekend of release, June 26-28, an amount that boosted its running domestic box office take to $233.8 million. Combined with the film’s $137.3 million in international ticket sales, Obsession’s running worldwide box office tally is currently at $371.1 million.
Obsession will be released on digital streaming via premium video on demand on Tuesday, June 30, on such platforms as Fandango at Home, Prime Video and YouTube Movies & TV.
Fandango at Home currently has Obsession listed for purchase on PVOD for $24.99. The film also also available to rent for $19.99 for a 48-hour period.
Curry Barker Is Including An ‘Obsession’ Easter Egg In His Next Film
As Obsession continues to enjoy its enormous success at the box office, Barker is already in post-production on his next film, the supernatural comedy Anything but Ghosts. Barker will also appear in the film, which also stars Bryce Dallas Howard, Aaron Paul and Cooper Tomlinson.
While Anything but Ghosts is not related, plot-wise, to Obsession, Inde Navarrette said there will be an Easter egg regarding Nikki in the film (you can read about the spoiler nod to the film here).
Obsession is playing in theaters and will arrive on PVOD on Tuesday.
